Elgato 4K X setup guide

How to set up the Elgato 4K X capture card for use with Tipsy Aim

What You Need

  • Elgato 4K X capture card
  • USB 3.0 cable (included with the Elgato)
  • HDMI cable (to connect your gaming PC's GPU output to the Elgato's input)
  • A second HDMI cable for your monitor (from the Elgato's output to your monitor)
1

Connect the HDMI Cables

The Elgato 4K X sits between your gaming PC and your monitor as a passthrough device.

HDMI IN → Connect from your gaming PC's GPU (the HDMI output you normally plug your monitor into)

HDMI OUT → Connect to your monitor/display

Your gaming PC's video signal now passes through the Elgato on its way to your monitor. You won't notice any difference in your gameplay, the passthrough is zero-latency.

2

Connect the USB Cable

Plug the USB 3.0 cable from the Elgato 4K X into your second PC(the cheat PC). This is how the capture card sends the video feed to Tipsy Aim. Make sure you use a USB 3.0 port (usually blue inside). USB 2.0 won't have enough bandwidth.

3

Install Elgato Software (Optional)

You don't necessarily need the Elgato 4K Capture Utility installed. Tipsy Aim can detect the capture card directly. However, installing it can be useful for testing your setup and verifying the video feed comes through properly before launching Tipsy.

4

Configure in Tipsy Aim

Open Tipsy Aim on your second PC. Go to Settings and select Elgato 4K X from the Capture Device dropdown. Hit Refresh if it doesn't appear immediately. We highly recommend setting your resolution to 1080p 240fps and capture format to NV12. Anything above 1080p will add more delay and/or lower FPS.

5

Verify the Feed

Launch a game on your gaming PC. You should see the game feed come through in Tipsy Aim's overlay on your second PC. If the feed is black or not showing, double-check your HDMI connections and make sure you're using the right GPU output on your gaming PC.

Tips:
  • Always use the HDMI port directly on your GPU, not on the motherboard
  • If you get flickering or no signal, try a different HDMI cable
  • We highly recommend 1080p 240fps. anything above 1080p will add more delay and/or lower FPS
